Julie Brown returned home from work to find the creek flowing through her Rouchel property ‘Lonsdale’.
She says it’s the first time they have seen it run in 1.5 years.
“I got home from work at around 6pm and couldn’t believe my eyes,” she said.
“Our rain gauge broke ages ago and we didn't bother replacing it because it hasn't rained in so long.
“But a neighbouring lady said that Upper Rouchel got an inch [25mm].”
She says a downpour in the mountains caused a flash flood which half filled a dam on the 1000 acre property they rent on.
“When we came home we were pulling debris from the road,” she said.
“We have been carting water for a year, so we will now have drinking water because it’s filled our tanks.
“I’ve lived here for 20 years and it’s the first time we have had to cart water.”
While some received the much-needed downpour, the storms were hit-and-miss across the Upper Hunter.
Merriwa recorded between 10 to 40mm while some people in Bunnan say they received 20mm.
Aberdeen and Scone recorded little more than 11mm while Murrurundi received 9mm.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology there is a tough system moving through western and central parts of the state and a chance of further rain for the Hunter heading into the weekend.
