The town’s Tourist Welcoming Centre, Men’s Shed and Rotary Club are gearing up to host a Bugger The Drought Party at the Merriwa Sports Oval from 11.30am to 5pm.
The day is aimed at Merriwa and Cassilis residents, so they can leave their worries at the entrance and enjoy an afternoon of friendship, entertainment, food and drink.
Residents are asked to simply bring their family, picnic table and chairs and the organisers will do the rest.
And, entertainment will be provided by a special guest.
Sydney based singer/songwriter, broadcaster, podcaster and author Dan Mullins is on his way to the Upper Hunter.
He has more than 30 years experience as a live performer at venues across Australia and overseas.
He is also a veteran radio producer, working on the Alan Jones Show for more than 14 years.
He presents The Bush Telegraph weekly on Alan’s program to 2GB in Sydney, 4BC in Brisbane and to 77 radio stations Australia-wide.
“A group of people from Sydney's northern beaches wrote to me to ask if I'd be interested in travelling with them when they deliver $350,000 worth of donated goods to the drought-affected farmers around Merriwa,” Mullins said.
“I didn't hesitate to say 'yes'!”
Mullins will also perform on Saturday night at the Merriwa RSL from 7-9pm.
“I walked 1000ks across Europe last year on what's called the Camino de Santiago - an ancient pilgrimage,” he added.
“I wrote a song while I was out on the plains of Spain.
“I shot the video with the award-winning Australian filmmaker Bill Bennett in April this year.
“It's already been viewed more than 35,000 times.
“I'll be singing the song for the Prime Minister at Kirribilli House in a few weeks time.”
