TWO days of women’s rugby action have wrapped up in Scone as the Brumbies hosted their second annual sevens tournament.

Running over November 3 and 4, it is one of the only strictly women’s sevens tournaments in Australia and is now one of the richest women’s carnivals in the state with prize money more than doubling from last year.
Nine teams battled it out for a place in the Plate Finals and the Cup Finals, which were contested on Sunday.
After taking out the Cup Final last year, the Tuggeranong Vikings failed to back it up the second time around however pulled off a strong win in the Plate Finals.
Out with an injury, the girls were cheered on by Scone born Wallaroo Kate Brown from the sideline as they claimed a 22-5 victory against Nelson Bay.
The final clash in the Cup Finals saw the Waratahs up against the Southern Districts with the Waratahs enjoying a 20-14 lead with two minutes left on the clock.
However, a try from the Southern Districts in the last 30 seconds saw them kick to win 21-20 on the buzzer securing $3200 in prize money.
Earlier in the day the Scone girls secured third place in the Plate Finals, bumping the Wanderers back to fourth.
A series of tries courtesy of Lucy Pruden saw the Scone Brumbies lead 12-7 at halftime and finish with a 17-12 win.
The tournament has gained enormous traction since its formation last year, gaining the interest of Australia’s two biggest sevens players Charlotte Caslick and Lewis Holland and Rugby Australia staff who were present scouting the growing field of talent for girls to join their national tournament in 2019.
