The Upper Hunter town took out Population Category A, for towns with a population under 2000, at the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW 2018 Tidy Towns Sustainable Communities Awards on Saturday.
Orange MP Philip Donato said it was wonderful to see mayors and councillors from all over NSW attend the event where there is pride in parks, gardens, colours, seasons and memories.
He acknowledged that every town in NSW has the potential to win awards.
“It’s the people who make the difference, volunteers, community groups, people working together to make improvements,” he said.
Murrurundi also received Highly Commended for the Murrurundi Public School’s Outdoor Classroom and Highly Commended for the Boomerang Bags project.
The judge, Doug McDonald, noted that the community is working towards improvements to the town through the revitalisation committee, advocating for improved health facilities and many community members are giving their time for drought relief with Doing it for our Farmers.
The overall winner for 2018 was Cessnock who will host the awards in 2019.
