The 16-year-old made his mark on the world stage when he competed at the National High School Finals Rodeo (NHSFR) at Rock Springs, Wyoming in July.

The up-and-coming talent didn’t let the opportunity to ride a bull at the world’s largest rodeo slip through his fingers – earning a total of 83 points to finish in the top ten in the world, placing ninth overall.

Since then he has continued to compete, riding at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Newcastle Invitational in August then the Raising Stars Junior PBR bull ride at Dubbo last month where he placed first. 

Now, he has the opportunity to represent Australia on the world stage for the second time this year at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Chris was scouted for the event along with four young Australian cowboys after his top ten performance at the NHSFR in July.

Scone talent Brendan Kelly also joins the mix for the adventure of a life-time, along with Tamworth’s young sporting dynamo Colby Edgar and Koby Usmar from Glen Innes.

The Wrangler NFR transforms the "Entertainment Capital of the World” each year in December for 10 days of tough competition.

In the junior final, each young competitor gets two rides and the top ten scores then go into “the short go”. 

Wilson said he’s ready to make the most of what will be a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the United States with close family friend Neville McGuckin chipping in $1000 worth of sponsorship and buckling up for the ride to accompany him on his adventure. 

“It’s different to Australia,” Wilson said.

“There’s better bulls, different people and its a whole different experience.”
