SCONE’S Chris Wilson may have been a long way from home, but he made sure he left this year’s Junior National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas feeling on top of the world.

The local cowboy has been crowned the new World Champion 14-15 Division Bull Rider after an 83-point ride.
Wilson won the first round against 32 of the best in the world, with fellow Scone cowboy Brendan Kelly drawing a tough one and not managing to post a score.
Wilson then came second in round two, making it through to the short go where he not only won the round, he took out the average title with a total of 234.5 points on three head.
The title comes after recent success in the United States at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyoming, where Wilson finished ninth in the world.
One of three Australian bull riders to qualify for the short-go, Wilson hopes to make a return next year in the 16-18 division.
Fellow Aussie cowboy, Koby Usmar placed third in the 12-13 division and Tamworth’s Colby Edgar was bucked off in the 10-11 division.
Chris’ mother Maree says he is no doubt soaking up the success over there and is due to return to Scone on Wednesday.
He will now enjoy a much-deserved break from competition until he rides in the National Finals Rodeo in Tamworth in January.
