Over the next four days, Murrurundi plays host for another year to the iconic King of the Ranges Stockman's Challenge, a unique festival that showcases the very best of Australia’s stockmen and women. The festival has a packed program of events and competition, and this year offers $5 entry tickets after 5 o’clock on Friday afternoon for all comers. If you’ve never been or you go every year, please come along and support the King of the Ranges and each of the great stockmen and women competing.

The festival continues to form a vital part of the fabric of Murrurundi and this year it will provide an especially welcome boost as the town and its community continues to struggle with ongoing water shortages and the despairing effects of the prolonged drought conditions.
Council is pleased to continue its support for the King of the Ranges and this year will provide additional loads of water to Murrurundi to ensure the water needs of the festival, its competitors and animals are met. Council has also recently entered into an agreement with the King of the Ranges Committee over the long term continued use of the Rosedale complex, giving the Committee the certainty it needs to plan for the future.
The King of the Ranges Stockman’s Challenge would not be possible without the year-round voluntary efforts of the organising committee members and the many volunteers who help over the days of the festival. To each of you the community says thank you and we are looking forward to a great few days of competition and an influx of visitors to Murrurundi.

A big shout out to Justine Cooper on her amazing efforts to support families impacted on by the protracted drought. Justine coordinates the Doing It For Our Farmers Pop Up Pantry, which provides food, water and other household goods to families on the land in dire straits.
The national media seems to have lost some of its interest in the drought after its intense coverage of Murrurundi’s situation towards the end of last year, which has sadly resulted in a decline in the number of donations Justine is receiving, while at the same time, the number of families calling into the Doing It For Our Farmers Pop Up Pantry for a helping hand continues to increase.
Supplies are diminishing and Justine is seeking additional donations with water, toilet paper, cleaning products, breakfast spreads and cereals at the top of the list. Let Justine know if you can help by emailing justinec@y7mail.com.
