The local charity sent 20 students from Merriwa Central, Scone Grammar, Muswellbrook High, Scone High and St Josephs High schools to the 8th National Student Leadership Summit this month, a one-day intensive workshop, designed to challenge, inspire and empower.
Hosted by St Peter's College, Adelaide, on Friday March 8, the summit is centred around the pressing issues of our time, encouraging dialogue, critical thinking and creative problem solving.
WTAW's student leadership coordinator Lindy Hunt said it was a transformative time for the students.
"My job was to coordinate the 20 kids to get them there to attend the summit," she said.
"The summit was designed and delivered by St Peter's two school captains and also an entrepreneur, Louka Parry, who's focus is bringing together a common understanding of wellbeing."
It's the third year WTAW has funded the students to attend the summit with feedback ranging from comments such as "it was life changing" to "I made a heap of new friends" and came back with a "newfound confidence".
The students will now apply what they learnt to deliver their own summit in the Upper Hunter at St Joseph's.
"My job is to facilitate them to design and deliver that," Lindy Hunt added.
"We've got our first planning day on Friday March 22 at Scone Grammar School and we'll set the date then, so some time in May.
"It was a pretty amazing group of kids, I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the summit for the Upper Hunter," Lindy Hunt concluded.
