The Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SNRC), Joblink Plus, Foodbank NSW, Woolworths Scone and Coles Scone have united to create the Morning Bites breakfast van.
The food van started this week and is available to any student on their way to school.
And, the feedback is that the kids are already loving it.
"I have organised a menu to suit the cooler mornings focusing on wholesome foods to fill tummies, with a few traditional breakfast favourites added," SNRC staff member Jaala Presland said
"The menu will change depending on ingredients we have available to serve.
"For our first week we had on offer warm milo, juice, cereal, a fruit bowl and toasted sandwiches."
While the SNRC received a $9000 grant from the Liberal Nationals Government's Stronger Communities Program and $14,000 from Joblinkplus to buy the van, with FRRR providing the funds to fit it out, the vehicle itself is not funded
"We still rely on this very generous community to donate food or support it financially," SNRC manager Lee Watts said.
"Families in a position to help can always pop a few coins in the money box on the breakfast van counter if they choose to," she said.
"The van is manned by staff and volunteers, without them the project would not happen."
