Champions John Kevans, John Murray, Charlie Manning, Les Cottam, Paul Smart, Elizabeth Kevans, Pam Manning, Sue Watts and Marie Murray - with numerous titles between them - all hit off from the first tee to mark the significant milestone.

Each was also presented with a special golf ball, by Upper Hunter Shire Council's manager business services David Gatwood, to commemorate the occasion.

Afterwards, eager long-time members of the club tested out the state-of-the-art layout, with all giving it the "thumbs up".

"We're delighted with the finished product," council's general manager Steve McDonald said.

"This is now the Scone community's course.

"We'll look after it over the next couple of months, but we'll be calling for Expressions of Interest soon to manage and maintain it.

"We'd like to thank everyone - from individuals to groups, the project team to council staff, for their assistance and patience.

"Many local golfers have been deeply involved in the planning over a number of years.

"So, this is their day."

The course re-opens to the public on Sunday.

As a way of an introduction, play will be complimentary for the first week from May 26 to June 2.

The project - funded by Roads and Maritime Services - to reconstruct the course was required due to the emergence of the Scone Bypass, with sections of the route dissecting the previous golf layout.
