Scone High School won the award with a steer donated by the Brooker family, Main Camp Angus, who have kindly donated three steers every year in which Scone High has entered the show, since 1984.

Representatives from the NSW state committee of Angus Australia travelled from Tumut, Gundagai and Camden to present the award, which included a cheque for $1000 by Reiland Angus.

The shield is named after the late Noel Williams, owner of the Black Mountain Angus stud at Berry, who co-founded the competition.

The winning steer weighed 536 kilograms liveweight and achieved a total of 81.5 points.

In presenting the award at a full school assembly Reiland Angus stud principal and Angus Australia NSW State Committee chairperson Mark Lucas, Gundagai, spoke of the importance of studying agriculture, reminding students not to be focused solely on technology because "you can't eat computers".

In closing the presentation Mr Lucas urged students considering their future to strive to "be the first and be the best" at whatever they choose to pursue.

Scone High School principal Brian Drewe said the school was honoured to have won the award eight times.

"To have had the generous support from BW and MM Brooker at Main Camp in donating steers each year, along with the dedicated teachers like Justin Newling and the student team work, reminds us of what great community we are part of, here in Scone," Mr Drewe said.

The Noel Williams Shield was created by the NSW State Committee of Angus Australia and is awarded for the highest scoring Angus steer entered in the Schools Section of the RAS Steer and Carcase Competition.

It was first presented as The PIBA Shield in 1994.

Past winners of the shield include Abbotsleigh, Barker College, Chevalier College, Downlands College Toowoomba, Frensham, The Kings School, Knox Grammar, The Scots School, Mudgee High School and Xavier College.
