Everyone is invited to get up close with the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup to celebrate the horses' birthday on Thursday August 1 2019 at White Park Arena, Scone from 1pm.
There will be stories about the Melbourne Cup's amazing history, the opportunity to take photos with the 18-carat trophy and have some birthday cake. No need to RSVP, just come along.
The Cup will also be visiting Aberdeen in the morning and Gundy in the evening.
Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Wayne Bedggood said it was fantastic that Aberdeen and Scone were successful in applying to host the 17th annual Lexus Melbourne Cup tour, in partnership with Godolphin, on the horses' birthday.
The towns are also among 24 rural and regional destinations to be included in the 2019 tour and a national sweep destination, with a cash prize of $50,000 for a local community charity.
Local opportunities to have your photo taken with the 2019 Lexus Melbourne Cup on Thursday August 1 are:
- 8am - 10.30am Godolphin Kelvinside, Aberdeen. Breakfast refreshments available. Formal welcome 9.15am. RSVP to kelvinside.rsvp@godolphin.com by Friday, 26 July 2019.
- 1pm White Park Arena, Scone.
- 6.30pm - 8.30pm Linga Longa Inn Hotel, Gundy.
Tour Ambassador travelling with the Cup to the Upper Hunter will be the 1972 and 1980 Melbourne Cup winning jockey John Letts.
