Despite a 28-60 loss to Merewether Heights Public School at Scone Basketball Courts on Monday, Scone Public School's PSSA Boys Basketball team walked away as one of the the top two schools out of 57 in the region.
Under the guidance of coach Danielle Fisher, the boys have shown great sportsmanship and resilience over the past six months, breezing through the first five rounds of the NSW PSSA 2019 Boys Basketball Knockout Competition undefeated.
The boys knocked over Muswellbrook 60-8 in Round 1, Foster 47-26 in Round 2, Taree West 59-21 in Round 3 and Tanilba Bay 68-18 in Round 4 and came home as regional semi-finalists following a 52-24 victory over Thornton earlier this month.
The team - which consists of Jayden Evans, Zander Seale, Lachlan Baker, Dusty Burnett, Sullivan Brooker, Jayden Seckhold, Joshua Bignell and Bayley Ralston - fought hard, showed great perseverance and represented their school with pride.
Team manager Kylie Dow said it was a fantastic effort for the boys to qualify for regional finals.
"It's the first time in some years that Scone Public School (Boys PSSA Basketball team) has qualified for regional finals and got to host a home game," she said.
