"Well done Scone getting these calibre of authors," said avid reader Tammy White, from Gunnedah, one of the many who has already booked for the Patrick White Oration being held by the Scone Literary Festival on November 16 at the historic Scone Arts and Crafts Hall.
The Oration is being delivered by acclaimed Australian author, Christos Tsiolkas, who will be traveling from Melbourne for the event, a major new initiative for the burgeoning festival.
Scone Literary Festival President Janie Jordan said the Oration is attracting attention from near and far with bookings from Sydney, the North West and up and down the Valley.
"When we received a major investment from Upper Hunter Shire Council to support our growth plans, we made a commitment to help boost Scone and its revitalisation, particularly post-bypass," she said.
"With the interest in the Patrick White Oration and visitors coming from afar, it looks like we'll be able to deliver on that commitment."
Ms Jordan also said that Christos, probably best known for The Slap, which won the Commonwealth Writer's Prize in 2009, and was adapted into two miniseries, in Australia and the United States, has certainly attracted attention from readers and fans of the festival.
"There is no doubt that an author of his calibre is a strong attraction, and he'll also be in conversation with our Patron and Australian living legend, Phillip Adams," she said.
"This is proving to be an irresistible combination."
Tickets for The Oration, which will also double as the launch of the March 2020 program, are available online through TryBooking - https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=536739 or in person at Hunt a Book bookshop in Scone.
