The third annual Scone Womens Rugby Sevens Tournament will take centre stage at Sir Owen Glenn Rugby Park, Scone, on November 16 and 17.

Tournament coordinator Bridget Hunt said eight teams are locked in to go head-to-head from all across NSW.

"We have teams from Newcastle, Nelson Bay, Hornsby and Sydney," she said.

"The Vikings from the ACT are also returning for their third year."

All the same teams are returning from previous years, with the addition of the Hamilton Hawks who will be attending the tournament for the first time.

"They've got quite a fierce group of girls, they've got the Nathan twins that have both placed in the UNE sevens which is a feeder into the Aussie sevens," Hunt added.

The Waratahs also bring quite a bit of experience with a number of girls that play in the Super W for the NSW Waratahs heading to Scone for the tournament.

"The Vikings are the same - they've now got girls playing in the Super W that have been travelling up here to play in the Scone 7s before the Super W kicks off," Hunt added.

Despite not not being able to run a Scone team in the Central North competition this year due to a losing a few girls to injury, Hunt said there was still a strong demand from the rugby sevens community to run the tournament.

"We were considering not running it this year but we had about six or seven teams messaging us so we changed our minds due to the strong demand," she said.

Aussie Sevens player Yasmin Meakes is also set to guest star on the weekend. She will be on hand on Sunday to rally on the girls and lend her support.

Despite all the action on the field, those attending are also encouraged to support a good cause by bringing in their old rugby boots and balls.

"One of the girls from the Hornsby Women's 7s Rugby Club is working on a program with her mother and they're collecting boots and balls which will be taken back to a town in Madagascar where they're building up a rugby program to try to bring everyone a little bit go joy and teach them rugby," Bridget Hunt said.

Games kick off at 10am on Saturday with the last game at 3pm, followed by an after party at the Belmore Hotel.

The action begins again on Sunday with finals at 9.30am and the last game at 12:30pm.

"We've had great support from our sponsors this year The Belmore Hotel, Menzies Glass, Pay's, Brooks Bros, Andale, Davis Contracting Solutions, Coalfields Classic Vehicle Registrations and Valentine Sports Photography," Hunt added.
