A SEVERE weather warning has been issued for the Hunter with thunderstorms, damaging winds, hail and heavy rainfall forecast for the region on Monday afternoon.
A low pressure system over inland NSW is drawing humid air across eastern parts of the state causing widespread thunderstorm activity, the bureau of meteorology said.
The system is expected to gradually move to the Tasman Sea on Monday afternoon and evening.
Scone and the Upper Hunter region are within the bureau's warning area.
The bureau said heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in the warning areas.
Temperatures are expected to hit 34 degrees on Tuesday in Scone and peak at 37 on Wednesday and Thursday with follow up falls to hit the region leading into the weekend.
