The event came about when Justine Cooper, who runs Doing it for our Farmers Murrurundi, received an out of the blue call from Craig Scott, a plumber from Sydney.
Mr Scott has been to Murrurundi to do some jobs fell in love with the town and the people, so he decided to use his connections to bring a bit of fun and laughter to the drought-stricken town.
He has organised a Cuban salsa event which will feature professional Cuban salsa dancers from Sydney alongside a Cuban DJ, Cuban food and drinks.
Sydney-based professional dancer and entertainer Airagdin Pavon More, known as 'El Moro' will star at the event, backed by well-known Sydney DJ Cuz Berenguela.
And, in a lovely gesture, all proceeds are being donated to the Doing it for our Farmers Pop-up Pantry.
"It's going to be so much fun," Justine Cooper said.
"There's a lot of local pubs, clubs and organisations involved in this day. It's going to be a great day."
The event aims to give locals a respite from the current stresses of every day life and the chance to get together, dress up and have a great night out.
Kicking off with Cuban salsa lessons from 12pm, Saturday, February 22, locals and visitors can then enjoy a lunch break in town before the nighttime festivities begin.
"There will be a one hour dance session before lunch, then we are providing free buses to wherever people want to go to eat," Justine continued.
"Then you come back, have another dance lesson, go home, put your party clothes on, come back, enjoy a sit down meal, then the DJ kicks in."
The dinner and party will kick off from 7pm at the Murrurundi RSL Hall and tickets are $35 per person which includes a drink and free dancing lessons.
Organisers hope the event will lift local's spirits while at the same time supporting local farming families.
"The Railway Hotel has taken their license over to the Murrurundi RSL for the day so that we can have alcohol, and we are hoping to organise some markets also," Justine added.
"There's going to be a film crew and also potentially a Conga Line out of the hall and across the road with the New England Highway blocked off for ten minutes.
"It's just fun, that's all it is, and the organisers are not making any money out of it. So whatever funds are raised will pay for everything and then the leftover will go to Doing it for our Farmers."
