IT might sound like the start of a joke - an Englishman and an Irishman join forces to walk from the Upper Hunter to the "big smoke".

But, on this occasion, there's no punchline, with the duo hitting the road for a serious cause.
Ed Goff and Harrison Badger are currently undertaking their 270km Scone to Sydney charity trek to raise much-needed funds for the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS).
And, after passing through Aberdeen, Muswellbrook and Singleton this week, they're hoping to arrive at their destination on Friday, February 21, with $20,000 in the kitty.
"We were just keen to help out, any way we could," Mr Badger said.
"Ed and I wanted to support the NSW RFS's efforts in battling the devastating bushfires, which decimated Australia's heartland.
"So far, the support's been great.
"Even while we're walking along the New England Highway, motorists are beeping their horns and cheering us on.
"It certainly motivates you.
"I've worked in the Upper Hunter for the past two years, at Kitchwin Hills Stud and Yarraman Park respectively.
"As a result, I have a profound and heartfelt connection to the affected areas."
It's a similar story for Mr Goff.
"I've been in Australia for a year; and working at Yarraman Park for the past three months," he explained.
"In that short time, I've also developed a strong love for the country and a real desire to do anything that can be done to assist those who are desperately in need.
"It's hard to believe half a billion animals have lost their lives since September, including one third of the koala population - an animal already struggling for survival.
"So far, we've raised $10,000, but we'd like to double that figure.
"Any donation will be greatly appreciated - and go a long way.
"We were thrilled Mick Malone and the team at Kitchwin Hills Stud sponsored our first day.
"Harrison and I are hoping others will follow suit."
He also amassed funds for local drought aid in 2018.
