Locally, this means no church services at Scone Anglican Church, no baptisms and the St Luke's Hall will also no longer be in use, with all hall bookings to be cancelled.
"Earlier today the GPs of the Hunter region joined with other medical practitioners urging citizens to take unprecedented action for their self-care and the care of the community," Bishop Peter Stuart said in a statement on Wednesday.
"They echo the voices of many medical leaders in saying, "Protect yourself, family and community by social distancing and personal hygiene, especially by frequent hand washing and not touching your face or eyes".
"With an immense sense of grief but with an equal sense of responsibility, I have decided that we should suspend all public worship in our churches," he continued.
"Where it is safe to do so, churches may be open to allow people to enter for private prayer in designated areas."
Scone Anglican Church minister Jesse Baker said since the elderly are the most vulnerable now, Strathearn Services and visitations are cancelled until further notice.
"To ensure that our pastoral presence is maintained, Leigh Rowney and Jean Keeping are writing letters to the residents and pastoral staff," he said.
"Only ordained clergy will be able to visit the residents."
Baptism celebrations are also suspended until further notice, with the church to reconsider the possibility of baptisms later in the year.
Since all church services, including Easter services are cancelled, Scone Anglican Church has stated it will be ramping up its online presence.
"Our innovative solution will be to create a home church experience," Rev. Baker said.
"Our weekly church service will be uploaded on the Scone Anglican Facebook page and our new Scone Anglican YouTube channel. This simplified church service will be posted on Saturday evening.
"In the meantime, please prepare a space in your home for worship."
The church is also in the process of COVID-19 Support Groups which will be led by several leaders who will be tasked with follow up, prayer and encouragement and providing discipleship and worship resources.
