Holiday arrangements for the Scone Cup are determined by the NSW Minister for Industrial Relations, on the basis of evidence of community support.
The options for Scone Cup Day 2021 are:
- No holiday arrangements;
- A local event day where no penalty rates apply unless agreed at an individual workplace level; or
- A part day public holiday from noon to 6pm which would reduce the burden on local businesses particularly those in hospitality; or
- A half day public holiday from noon (as in previous years).
The survey asks respondents to choose their preferred holiday arrangements for the 2021 Scone Cup.
In previous surveys most respondents have supported a half day public holiday on the Friday of the Scone Cup, however support for a part day holiday is rising.
In the last survey conducted in 2019, almost half of survey respondents (47%) preferred the Scone Cup Day to remain a HALF day public holiday, a drop in support from previous years - 2018 (63%), 2017 (60%), 2016 (68%), 2015 (74%). Support for a PART day public holiday rose to 37%, a big increase on previous years - 2018 (15%), 2017 (16%), 2016 (13%), and 2015 (9%).
Based on community views the holiday arrangements have applied to Aberdeen, Blandford, Bunnan, Ellerston, Gundy, Moonan Brook, Murrurundi, Parkville, Scone, Rouchel, Timor and Wingen.
The holiday arrangements have never applied to the Merriwa and Cassilis districts, and several years of consultations with these communities have not indicated support to extend holiday arrangements.
A survey is on Council's website under Hot Topics or you can provide a written submission to the General Manager by emailing council@upperhunter.nsw.gov.au , post to PO Box 208 Scone NSW 2337 or dropping it into any Council office.
Submissions close 14 October 2020.
Council will also contact stakeholders such as schools, businesses, banks and transport companies for their views.
The Scone Cup Race Day will be held Friday 14 May 2021 at Scone Race Club.
