A man has been charged by NSW Police after refusing to wear a face mask and allegedly assaulting an employee at a store in Murrurundi on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said a man entered the food store on Mayne Street, Murrurundi at about 4:15pm without wearing a face mask.
A 30-year-old male employee offered the man a mask, before the man allegedly became verbally abusive towards the worker and left the store.
Police said the mant returned to the store a short time later and walked behind the counter, before allegedly assaulting the employee repeatedly and attempting to drag him from the store while threatening him.
According to police, customers went to the aid of the employee and the man then fled the scene.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the store employee for cuts and bruises to his face and swelling to his left eye, before he was taken to Murrurundi Hospital where he was later released.
Officers from Hunter Valley Police District were called and following inquiries, police arrested a 53-year-old Murrurundi man who was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police said the man was granted conditional bail and is set to appear before Scone Local Court on Thursday, November 18 2021.
