Overseas and domestic travel is back with a vengeance. Don't believe us? Just have a look at the latest insights from Kayak, according to which searches for domestic flights for travel in the second half of 2023 are up 52 per cent compared to the same period in 2019.
In fact, international flight searches are experiencing an even higher spike - of 68 per cent. There's a cost to all this enthusiasm. According to Kayak, international economy airfares are up 51 per cent on average compared to pre-pandemic levels - that's an increase of $1826 per return journey.
Experiencing a rise of 10 per cent on average (or $400 per return journey), domestic economy airfares are somewhat sparing, with average economy return flights to the Gold Coast sitting at about $280. What a great excuse to continue to explore our own backyard.
