From his hospital bed after having surgery on a broken left hand metacarpal, Formula One racer Daniel Ricciardo couldn't be more confident in his recovery.

"This ain't a setback, just all part of the comeback," he posted to Instagram on August 28.

The AlphaTauri driver was in surgery earlier that morning getting his "first bit of metal work".

He sent "big thanks" to friends, family and fans who reached out and kept his spirits high after his crash during a practice for the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort on August 25.

He crashed into the barrier at turn three after swerving to avoid colliding with his replacement from McLaren, fellow Australian Oscar Piastri.

The Dutch Grand Prix was planned to be Ricciardo's third comeback race after a parting ways with the McLaren team in 2022.

New Zealand driver Liam Lawson stepped in for Ricciardo at the Grand Prix on August 27, finishing in 13th place.
