As far as drama goes, W Sydney seems to have copped a fair bit of it. The world's biggest W hotel - with 588 rooms - was meant to open in Darling Harbour in 2020. But then we all know what happened: the world shut down and builders collapsed, casting doubts on the future of the property.

But against all odds and after several years of pandemic-related delays, the hotel - housed in a skyline-altering ribbon-shaped building - finally cut the ribbon on Thursday, revealing for the first time internal spaces that are just as dramatic.

Take in the bold curves and yacht-inspired interiors at the 29/30 bar, plonked on - well - level 29 and 30 of the hotel, with wide-angle views of the 30-metre infinity pool and the harbour beyond.

Or extend the fun by staying in one of the rooms, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows, curved walls and glossy ensuites with deep standalone bathtubs. We're eyeing the Spectacular suite (pictured) with sweeping Darling Harbour views.

My all-time favourite destination is ... New York. You can drop a pin anywhere in Manhattan and start walking in any direction, and the sights and sounds of the city that never stops will begin to stimulate all your senses in an instant.
Next on my bucket list is … Scandinavia - at the peak of summer, when the sun almost never sets.
My top travel tip is … If you’re flying to Sydney from anywhere in the world, pick a window seat far from the wing on the left-hand-side of the aeroplane. If the weather gods and flight path align, you’ll have the most incredible views of the Sydney Harbour and Opera House.
