The next thing, an arrow flies out of the darkness and appears to hit one of the police.
Even then, his body camera shows him to be calm and in control of his thoughts.
"He fired a shot. I've been hit. But it's OK at the moment," the officer says - and then resumes the task of arresting the man without further hurt.
Reinforcements were called.
The man shot a second arrow at the police and was then arrested.
"Specialist resources successfully negotiated with the man who was apprehended without further incident," the police said.
It turned out that the first arrow had narrowly missed the officer but shattered glass which did hit him.
The aggressor was charged with using an offensive weapon in an act endangering life, as well as offences relating to previous incidents, including breaching a family violence order and failing to appear in court.

Last week, the police said, he was sentenced to 22 months in prison.
The officer in charge of Woden Police Station said the video showed the risks police officers face daily.
"Police are here to keep the community safe, and there is no place for violence or abuse towards officers," Detective Inspector Hofmeier said.
"In this incident, an officer's life was put at risk in an extremely dangerous act. Police went to that home to ensure the safety of the man and found themselves at grave risk.
"Every officer should have the right to come to work and go home safely.
"I am pleased no-one was seriously injured and that the man was safely taken into custody and given the health support he required."
