Semi-automatic rifles seized from 'high-risk' domestic violence offender

A 39-year-old man was charged with serious domestic violence crimes, including deprivation of liberty and stalking, after police searched his Walkerston home on June 18.

Mackay Whitsundays District police officers seized semi-automatic rifles and large-capacity magazines with ammunition from the man.

Queensland Police Acting Inspector Scott Ingram said, "Illegal firearms have no place in our community, and we will continue to target offenders and remove dangerous weapons from the streets".

"The Mackay Whitsundays District is dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and taking firm action against offenders," he said.

"Everyone has the right to live without fear of domestic and family violence."

The domestic violence suspect was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a rifle and unlawful stalking, deprivation of liberty, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition), and possession of utensils.

He is due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on September 8.
