Operations at Berlin's international airport remain halted, with no aircraft able to depart or land due to black ice and persistent freezing rain.

A spokeswoman for Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) said "because of black ice and ongoing freezing rain, no take-offs or landings are currently possible at BER" on Friday
She added airport ground crews had treated flight operations areas with de-icing agents throughout the night, but without success, leaving them extremely slippery.
It remained unclear when flight operations could resume.
"For the protection of passengers and staff, flight operations have been temporarily suspended. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights regularly before travelling to the airport," the spokeswoman said.
Take-offs and landings had already been suspended on Thursday due to black ice.
Passengers were waiting for operations to resume on Friday morning.
There had been many flight cancellations on Thursday at BER, which is located on the southern outskirts of the capital.
At the start of the day, no aircraft were able to take off after freezing rain had encased aeroplanes in ice, meaning it was taking up to an hour to de-ice the aircraft.
The first planes took off in the late morning, and the flight schedule was subsequently subject to considerable delays and numerous cancellations.
Berlin has been experiencing a weeks-long period of cold weather combined with snow and freezing rain, causing major transport disruption.
