A will that comes from within its members to help others in the local community and enhance the opportunities for people.
Following a request from Murrurundi Library assistant Zina Daniel, the club of 13 donated a $1000 glass showcase cabinet to allow different collections to be displayed at the library.
As a thank you, the Lions Club gained the right of being the first showcase in which they are currently displaying a range of memorabilia items from throughout its 50 year history.
The club formally celebrated its 50 year milestone last October with a large celebration attended by many including life members Ray Schubert who was an inaugural member and Barry Latter – another long serving Lion.
Two hard working members of the group are current president Lynne Mahony and possible future president, husband Steve.
The Mahony’s have been in the club for seven years and Mrs Mahony said it was a nice group who is always looking for new members.
Mrs Mahony said the Lions Club like to be able to help the community as much as possible.
“If people want things in the community they just need to put it in writing and we will consider it,” she said.
Current projects the club is working on are the Lions International Eye Glass Recycling program where they will collect old spectacles to send to third world countries.
They also have plans to preserve and nurture the Murrurundi Railway Heritage Park including the depot, water tower and surrounding area.
Mrs Mahony said the club aims to preserve the last remaining elevated water storage tank at the site, which would otherwise be demolished as it is no longer used.
The club is currently searching for memorabilia and history about the park and the water tank in an effort to keep the heritage alive.
The club meets every fourth Wednesday of the month for a dinner meeting and will be holding its annual changeover dinner next Wednesday, June 26.
