After early concerns about not having numbers to form a team at the start of the season we were lucky enough to pick up some quality players from the defunct Scone girls side and Muswellbrook.

It was evident that the new players - Lily “Cuddles” Collins, Mikaela “Happy Feet” Tilse, Daniel “The Smiling Assassin” Nicol, Cashlin Murray-Mell aka “Thor” and Caleb “The Hammer” Hamsom - added a touch of class and improved the overall dress sense of the team.
With “Thor” running riot up front and being supported by an already star studded and quality forward line and mid-field consisting of Guilherme Ribiero “GR7” or “The African”, Sam “Golden Boot” Gallen, Theo “Fellaini” Sam and Fintan “Yaya” Conway it was obvious we were going to have a goal festival throughout the year.
When combined with a strong defensive line up consisting of Tristan “The Axe” Crowley-Dawe, Mitch “The brick with eyes” Turner, Jack “Ankles” White, Luke “Dyson” Morris and Bill “The Breaker” Pinkerton, the stage was set for an incredible season.
The ultimate goal stopping machine Isaac “Knuckles” Smith completed the star studded squad.
The coaching staff Chris “Curly” Sam, Andrew Dick (aka “Beez”), Dr Paul “Gonzales” Beiboer and managers’ Simon “Stretch” Gallen and Greg “Dib Dib” Morris again put in the hard yards to stroke the egos of the overpaid and underworked squad to get out their best performances each week. They were capably supported by parents and friends with an honourable mention to Graeme “Charcoal” White on the barbecue.
With the minor premiership in the bag three weeks before the end of the season, the best defensive and attacking record and multiple clean sheets to “Knuckles” and also “The Axe”.
Incredibly this was achieved with several serious injuries to key players with both “Yaya” and “The brick with eyes” breaking wrists during the season, “Fellaini” incurring ankle ligament damage and “Cuddles” having a compound fractured elbow (luckily cleared to play by “Gonzales”).
We won’t mention some soft tissue issues evident at training or “Happy Feet” trying to eat a mouldy vest.
After fighting tooth and nail in the grand final, and being the dominant and best looking team on the day, the scores were locked at one all after extra time and we ended up losing a penalty shoot-out nine to seven.
The highlight of the day was our passing game and GR7’s goal celebration run.
The whole team played brilliantly but special mention to “Dyson”, “Fellaini”, “Ankles”, “Knuckles”, “YaYa” and “The Axe”.
It was a great contest played in the right spirit and everybody should be proud of their efforts.
The minor premiership is the real victory showing consistency over the season.
A great season with a talented and dedicated bunch of athletes. Well done!
