With an increasing demand for childcare and preschool early learning options for youngsters in the Upper Hunter, the new Scone Grammar School Preschool is a welcomed facility.
As soon as the licence for the preschool is approved, an official commencement date will be released, however Scone Grammar School principal Paul Smart hopes to commence the preschool early in the new year.
The preschool will be known as ‘The Yellow Cottage’ with construction and landscaping of the Liverpool Street site expected to be completed at the start of December.
It will operate during normal school hours in school term time and will include two classroom groups – one for children turning four and another for children turning five.
The facility will be coordinated by the director Kirsty Hails and a staff of six, including one already appointed part time teacher Georgi Ryan.
Applications for the 43 place centre will be taken from tomorrow, with application forms available at the school.
All families are welcome to enrol their child, with many attending an information evening last night to learn about the preschool and its objectives.
Mr Smart encouraged all parents interested to enrol their child or contact him to discuss, as the centre is for the whole community.
“The centre shouldn’t be seen to be only for children that plan to go to Scone Grammar School in later years, you are not locked into the school forever.
“Ideally, it will have a flow on effect for our school’s enrolment, but it is certainly not an expectation,” he said.
Mr Smart said the preschool will provide that vital first step in the learning journey with a play-based preschool program that also aims to achieve benefits for five-year-old children of a transition nature to help them prepare for school.
People can keep up to date with the preschool’s progress by following it on the Scone Community Facebook page.
