Help give a sick child a second chance at life by supporting ‘Coin for a Cord’ Day - the national project of Inner Wheel Australia.
Once again, the Inner Wheel Club of Scone will be raising funds for Cord Blood Research today.
Inner Wheel’s “Coin for a Cord Day” began in 2000 and we are proud to announce that we have exceeded raising over two million dollars since then. Please help us to continue raising funds for this worthwhile cause by purchasing a piece of our Cord Blood merchandise or by giving a donation.
The stall will be outside The Reject Shop on Kelly Street.
We will also have a framed pastel and a handmade blanket, a small painting and a potted plant to be raffled.
Cord Blood research focuses on how cord blood transplants can help critically ill children with acute leukemia and other medical conditions.
In the past cord blood (the blood left behind in the umbilical cord after childbirth) was discarded.
Now, however it is saved in a “cord blood bank” and is used in research.
Cord blood contains stem cells, undifferentiated cells that have the ability to develop into different specialised cells that comprise tissues in the body and comes under the canopy of regenerative medicine.
The research resulting from Cord Blood has led to far reaching positive results not only in medicine, but in veterinary procedures such as equine tendon and ligament repair.
Inner Wheel is one of the world’s largest women’s organisations whose members support their local communities through a variety of service opportunities.
We meet on the first Monday of each month at 6.30pm at the Royal Hotel in Kelly Street, Scone and on the last Monday of the month we have a morning tea get together.
We offer friendship to women of all ages, and organise social and fundraising events that support the local community, and national and international projects to improve women and children’s way of life.
