MARGARET Cooper has been presented with the Hunter McLoughlin Memorial Citizen award after more than five decades of dedication to Scone basketball and other community activities.

Always an avid sports person throughout her life, she also engaged in social tennis, competition squash, and toured the state with roller hockey as well as basketball.
Ms Cooper has been involved in volunteering, with over 25 years in Girl Guides and Brownies, Scone Arts and Crafts, Scone United Hospital Auxiliary, and the Westpac Helicopter Scone Support Group.

She said it was a surprise to win the award, which was handed to her during the Australia Day ceremony at Council Chambers on Tuesday.
“It’s a great shock, I’m very excited about it all,” she said.
“I just hope that I can keep doing what I have been for years to come.”
Ms Cooper has also held positions on committees as well as developing clubs and services, planning major fundraising, catering for events large and small, running raffles, and volunteering on the trolley run at Strathearn.
