The Upper Hunter Youth Council have hit the ground running this year. This Friday you may notice a number of young people wearing Pink Shirts.
This is a campaign organised by the Youth Council to bring awareness to bullying.
Whether it is in schools, workplaces, on the sports field or in the home, we are all responsible for supporting those around us and saying bullying is not OK.
Aberdeen Men’s Shed
Men’s Sheds are a great resource in our Shire and it is fantastic that Council and theenthusiastic volunteers from Aberdeen have been able to work together toward the imminent opening of their very own big shed.
I think there are still some misconceptions in the community about Men’s Sheds. While some members are industriously creating furniture and helping others out with handyman projects, YOU DO NOT NEED TO PICK UP A TOOL! Men’s Sheds are a place that gets you out of the house (think of it as a gift to your wife), meet friends, talk about the weather or just listen to the radio.
As the president of one of the Upper Hunter Men’s Sheds said to me, “You do not need to be handy, you just need to be able to tell lies and drink coffee.” Of course if you are handy then drop into the Aberdeen Men’s Shed in Jefferson Park and help out as they do the final fit out before the grand opening in May. Or give the president Frank Heap a call on 6543 7390.The Murrurundi Men’s Shed, located next to the Youth Centre in Rosedale, meet on Monday mornings.

Looking out for furry friends
Owning a dog brings a lot of joy, but it also means being responsible for your best friend’s wellbeing. While you have probably heard about the parvo virus, did you know there are currently cases of Brucellosis in our area causing damage to pigging dogs?
Council and the Aberdeen Vet & Pet Centre are inviting pet owners – particularly pig dog owners – to come down to the Pet Centre on Saturday, 12 March to get some free goodies and some expert advice.
This is an Open Day so drop in anytime from 9.00am to 2.00pm.
There will be vouchers for desexing, microchipping and vaccinations, as well as new pig dog gear for sale and a free sausage sizzle for Upper Hunter Shire residents.
Extraordinary meeting
Council will hold an extraordinary meeting on Monday, February 29 in the Council Chambers, Scone commencing at 10am.
The purpose of this meeting is to consider Council’s submission to Roads & Maritime Services on the proposed bypass plans and town centre bridge concept design for Scone.
