But, that didn’t stop the current crop of youngsters from BHP Billiton Hunter Valley Group 21 Rugby League rivals, the Scone Thoroughbreds and Muswellbrook Rams, from acknowledging past glories at Scone Park on Saturday.
During the Where There’s A Will Round, the two members of the Thoroughbreds’ 1952 under-18 team – the first outfit to snare a junior title for the club – were presented to the home crowd.
In that year, Scone went through the competition undefeated, winning both the minor and major premierships.
The Thoroughbreds then defeated the Rams 20-18 in a very close grand final to lift the Group 21 trophy.
The 1952 squad consisted of Lawrence, Moore, Jim Court, Bernie Day, Tommy Dukes, Danny Eveleigh, John Fisher, Brian Gyles, Brian Hoddle, Vince Lewis, Norm Mould, Gordon Munro, Lionel Newby, Bruce Pittman and Doug Simpson.
Surge into 2017 – and it was the Rams who claimed the spoils on this occasion.
After a commanding opening half, to lead 22-0 at the break, Muswellbrook went on with the job in the second period to prevail 44-10.
The minor premiers now tackle the Singleton Greyhounds in the major semi-final this weekend, while the Thoroughbreds lock horns with the Denman Devils in the elimination fixture.
