The annual Stockman’s Challenge and Murrurundi’s signature event is on again this weekend. Three days of action packed competition will be taking place at the Rosedale Complex and will bring talented competitors from around the country to take on the best of our region - with bumper crowds to watch them go!
There are standout performers coming to town too, with Luke Thomas’s Outback Show, the popular Tribute to Archie ‘Bung’ McInnes and live music from Double Trouble on Friday night and country star Brent Larkham performing live on Saturday night after the amazing High Velocity Trick riders. Full details of the program are available at www.kingoftheranges.com.au or via their Facebook page.
Bengalla Warbirds Over Scone
Another exciting event is on the horizon, with less than six weeks to go until the Warbirds take flight over Scone again on Sunday 25 March. Preparations are well underway with title sponsor Bengalla Mining Company and media partners signed up, and early bird ticket sales going really well.
The Flight of The Hurricane back in 2016 was a fantastic spectacle on a special day and drew a crowd of over 5,000 and I’ve no doubts that the upcoming day will be bigger and better. Further details, including how to pre-book your own adventure flight are available at the event website www.warbirdsoverscone.com.au and their Facebook page.
Murrurundi Water Treatment Plant
Although it will not be officially opened until the 27 February, the new Litree Water Treatment plant is now up and running in Murrurundi and has resulted both in an improvement in the quality of the town’s water and an easing of Water Restrictions back to Level 4.
Whilst there have been issues and delays beyond our control, with the Scone to Murrurundi water pipeline project, it remains on track for commissioning in 2020 and yes, we are well aware that it can’t come soon enough for the town’s residents.
New General Manager - Steve McDonald
I’ll add my voice to those welcoming Steve to the Shire as General Manager. I think his track record in the job at Muswellbrook was excellent and he impressed me and all of my colleagues at both his interviews. There are many projects to bring to fruition and much work to be done, and I’m very confident we have the right person for the job.
