Scone Scouts is hosting an Open Day on Sunday, August 4 from 10am to 12pm at Elizabeth Park, Scone.
The fun-filled event is aimed at six to 16-year-olds to showcase what scouting is all about.
Scout Leader Greg Morris said as an organisation that works with young people, they're constantly recruiting and looking for new members.
"In Term 3 we run a whole stack of hikes including a hike up Scone Mountain, Wingen Maid and a hike up Wallabadah Rock," he said.
"Then in Term 4 we will go caving up at Timor Caves and in Term 1 next year we're canoeing down at Sydney.
"So there's lot of outdoor activities happening."
Scouting is a fun and challenging opportunity to grow through adventure and locally the group enjoys a healthy membership.
"We have around about 40 youth members," Mr Morris explained.
"We have children who live in Murrurundi, children who live in Gundy, who come to us.
"A part of it is learning to get on with other kids, but unlike football or rugby league you don't need 11 kids the same age, you don't have to commit to come every Saturday and you're not letting the team down if you don't turn up."
Mr Morris said the group often gets kids join who are not necessarily sporty or hand-eye coordinated and they encourage them to pursue outdoor activities such as jumping and bike riding.
"But essentially its about teaching kids to be good citizens," Mr Morris said.
"It's a very multifaceted program - we kid gets that come along because it's just mum raising a teenage boy and they want some help.
"So we take the teenage boy and take him hiking and caving."
The idea of Open Day is to showcase the benefits of Scouting.
The day will feature a photo album showing all the outdoor activities Scouts participate in, a billy cart race and more.
Any kid who turns up on the day is welcome to join in the activities.
There will also be opportunities to learn out about Joeys, Cubs, and Venturers.
Turn up at 10am to register and finish at 12pm with a free sausage sizzle.
