Homes are being evacuated in Scone due to major flooding event on Friday, November 26

Upper Hunter Shire Council said 77 homes are being evacuated due to rising floodwaters in Scone on Friday, November 26.

The Council said those evacuated from their homes need to go to the Scone Basketball Stadium on Hill Street and register with Council staff.

The Council said once evacuees are registered, "in the first instance they are encouraged to stay with friends or family if safe to do so, if they have no alternative then FACS (Family and Community Services NSW) will assist with accommodation".

The Council said homes on the following streets in Scone are being evacuated:

  • 12 houses on Liverpool St
  • 6 houses on St Aubins St
  • 7 houses on Kingdon St
  • 22 houses on Aberdeen St
  • 8 houses on Mount St
  • 4 houses on Susan St
  • 14 houses on Parker St

The Council also pleaded for people to stop attempting to drive through flooded roads, particularly at Glenbawn Road.

"We have had several cars have to be rescued and this is a drain on resources," the Council said.

The Council also said sandbags have been distributed to various businesses on Kelly St in Scone as floodwaters near their peak according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Meanwhile, the Council said Dartbrook Rd is to be closed at the intersection with the New England Highway.

Significant traffic delays are occurring on the New England Highway between Scone and Aberdeen due to flood water spilling over the road.
