The ANZ app, internet banking, card transactions, ATM and branch services were disrupted by a software issue, an ANZ spokesperson said.
Reports of customers struggling to access ANZ banks sites began spiking at 1.20pm, according to outage tracker Downdetector.

One Sydney-based ANZ customer said access to his mobile banking app had returned just before 5pm.
"ANZ experienced a software issue which impacted a number of our core systems from 1.37pm AEST today," an ANZ spokesperson said.
"As a result, multiple internal applications and customer facing channels, including our ANZ App, Internet Banking, Credit/Debit Card transactions, ATMs, Contact Centres and Branch services, became unavailable.
"By 5pm AEST, most systems were back online - including Contact Centres, Internet Banking, ATMs and the ANZ app.
"However we are still experiencing some instability across our Visa Credit Card transaction services. We recommend customers use Debit Card or Cash wherever accepted while our teams are continuing to work to resolve.
"We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience caused to our customers," they said.
Frustrated customers are posting to social media about the poorly timed outages as many Australians celebrate the long weekend and AFL Grand Final.
According to Downdetector, 54 per cent of reports were regarding to access online banking, 31 per cent were from mobile banking outages and 15 per cent were from mobile login issues.
