International Midwives Day has been acknowledged each year on May 5 since 1991 to raise awareness of the important job midwives do and the care they provide in the community.
The theme this year was “Women and Newborns: The heart of Midwifery”.
A week later, International Nurses Day is then traditionally celebrated on Florence Nightingale’s birthday, 12 May, to mark the contribution nurses make towards people’s health.
This year’s the theme was Nurses: A Force for Change: Improving health systems' resilience.
Scott Memorial Hospital Health Service Manager Judy Bernasconi said they were important days for the staff.
“We had an afternoon tea to acknowledge the remarkably kind and professional care our midwives and nurses provide to the Scone community,” she said.
