Braden Cook, Adan McGuinness and Matt Smart joined boys from all over the North West and the New England who had prepared for the championships during the preceding months.
In freezing conditions at Scone on day one, Central North were defeated by Mid North Coast 15-13 in a tight contest.
They then encountered the eventual winners of the carnival, Central West, who were the victors 19-5.
Matt Smart scored the points with a classic fullback’s try out wide.
These losses placed Central North third in their pool so they had to contest two play off games on the Sunday morning.
The first was against Mid North Coast, with Central North picking up a comfortable 19-0 victory. Braden Cook bagged a try out wide.
The final encounter was against Illawarra, who ended Central North’s tournament after claiming a tense 5-0 win.
Players from both the under-15s and 16s were looking to gain selection into their respective NSW Country teams as well as winning the Country Championships for their zone.
