More than 60 people were on hand to hear Professor James Allan’s August address, Linking China with Europe: Blue and White in the Middle East.
The Australian Decorative & Fine Arts Society Scone Inc (ADFAS) hosts monthly lectures – and the concept is proving extremely popular, according to chairman Anne Davies.
“It was an excellent night,” she said.
“And, we were very happy with the turnout.
“It’s certainly been a worthwhile group to be involved in.
“The talks are usually complemented by a friendly social gathering afterwards, with a few refreshments.
“In other words, we’re like-minded people on a cultural basis.
“But, we’re widening our interests.”
ADFAS is a group of 35 “societies” that offer their members a series of informative and entertaining illustrated lectures, plus some workshops covering a broad range of subjects relating to art.
Together, they form the Association of Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Societies, the central body responsible for the overall programming and lecturer schedules.
The next guest on the Scone agenda is Stephen Richardson, who will discuss English Period Styles in Art – 1760-1840 – A Fascination with the Antique on September 13.
Members and visitors are reminded of a change in venue.
That lecture will be held at the Upper Hunter Shire Council chambers, instead of the Scone Arts & Craft Hall, from 6pm.
