Both sides are currently undefeated posting convincing wins over Singleton and Cessnock.
This is the second year the Upper Hunter side have entered a team in the John Bull Shield Second XI competition after a long hiatus.
The competition is built around providing junior players with experience in senior representative games, with a minimum of four players being under 21.
The core group has eight players that are under 21 – fighting out for only six positions with a number of senior players unavailable.
There are a number of players pushing for selection and putting pressure on the selectors with great performances in the local competition, with the team to be announced later in the week.
The local competition is extremely tight with five teams fighting out for four places in A Grade and the remaining sides fighting out for places in B Grade, with only one side to miss out on a finals birth.
Make sure you get down to Saunders Oval at the Bill Rose Sports Complex, Scone on Sunday January 14 to support the Wombats.
