Normally home to some of the best war planes in the world, the unique location will come to life for the Black Tie event on Saturday November 17.
After countless fundraising events organised by the community, it was time the charity did something themselves, says WTAW Chair Jane Callinan.
“We’ve called it the Rainbow Ball because we’re all about bringing colour to lives,” she said.
“Pay’s have very kindly offered the hangar free of cost for the event.
“We’ve had everything from 3-year-old children selling eggs to raise money for Where there’s a Will through to hats being passed around at rodeos, cake stalls, dress up days and of course some of the phenomenal efforts from our sporting teams but this is the first major fundraiser we have hosted.
“We’re on a mission to make it a night filled with fun so guests experience the boost to wellbeing that comes with connecting with friends and being a part of something that is bigger than themselves.”
Guests will enjoy pre-dinner drinks and canapés on the runway before moving into the hangar for a sit-down dinner.
Professor Lea Waters will star as guest speaker before Brett Martin, one of Sydney’s hottest DJs brings the dance floor to life.
Having been instrumental in the rollout of Visible Wellbeing programmes implemented across Upper Hunter schools, Professor Waters will give guests a sense of what this means for children in the area.
Callinan says it’s set to be a night to remember with funds raised going towards projects to improve wellbeing and mental health in the Upper Hunter.
“Over the past two years we’ve been able to provide significant assistance to schools in the implementation of wellbeing programmes and we’ve also provided extensive training opportunities in positive education for teachers,” she said.
“More funding will help us expand this education and training to sporting organisations and other key community groups so that ultimately we have an entire community working together on initiatives that will help young and old flourish and thrive.”
Having catered for corporate functions for a cast of thousands such as the Coolmore Stud Open Day in the Hunter Valley, Hunted Gourmet will provide the catering while Scone event manager the Event Storeroom will help bring the hangar to life.
Organisers say interest in the event is already high with a number of guests expected to come from out of town to experience a great country ball.
Tickets are $250 per person which includes canapes, dinner, dessert, wine & beer and are available at http://wheretheresawill.floktu.com/.
There will be a silent auction on the night, with items to be finalised.
