The 7’s competition has proved to be a favourite of the local sporting community as teams get together for the relaxed and friendly tournament, which is more about having fun than fighting for victory.
Gavin Newton-Smith made comments about the day, emphasising that fairness and entertainment is a huge factor.
“It’s a modified competition with seven players on each side with each innings only consisting of six overs and a rolling batting order that means everyone gets to bat at some point during the day,” he said.
“Last year we saw 16 or so teams nominated split into two grades with everyone playing a minimum of three games.
“Some of the teams decide to dress up, with recent sides such as the Steve Irwin’s, the Seven Dwarves, Hawaiians, bogans and last year saw some blokes trying to impress in dresses.”
Due to the large amount of squad’s last year the competition lasted for a thoroughly enjoyable five hours, and organisers are hoping they will receive at least the same again this time around.
The Upper Hunter District Cricket Association are in charge of proceedings which means registrations can be done through their website http://www.uhdca.nsw.cricket.com.au/, with the deadline placed at 8 am on Saturday and the cost being $100.
The event, whose major sponsor is Scone RSL, will be held at the Bill Rose Sports Complex and begin at around 9:30 am.
Mr Newton-Smith is adamant it will be a success yet again and urged anyone interested in playing to involved, or even for lovers of the sport to just get along on the 26th and enjoy the show.
“It’s a fun day focused on cricket and community and everyone having a go and getting into the game,” he said.
