AACTA nominated Emu Runner, screens in Scone on Monday afternoon.
Nature can mend even the most broken heart, in this tender story that all the family can enjoy.
Her mother's sudden death propels 9-year-old Gem, (Rhae-Kye Waites in her screen debut) to seek comfort.
Her father, Wayne Blair (The Sapphires, Mystery Road) struggles to comfort and understand her, in the wake of his own grief.
Gem finds solace when she befriends a wild emu.
This rebuilds her spirit, but also brings her into conflict with an inexperienced new social worker, dispatched to discover why she's skipping school.
Both deliver emotionally charged performances at the centre of a dynamic ensemble of Brewarrina locals.
Logie award-winning actor Rob Carlton (Paper Giants), is the local policeman.
The film has received critical acclaim with Live For Film describing it as "good family entertainment, which also has something meaningful to say".
Rotten Tomatoes rates it at 89 per cent, and Variety enthused, "flightless the [emu] may be, but Emu Runner soars".
"If you haven't been before, come along and support your local community cinema," Scone Films' Catherine Boulton said.
"Experience the excellent picture quality and surround sound from our digital cinema equipment.
"As always, there is a warm welcome for everyone. There's no membership; it's open to all."
