According the NSW Health website, which is providing constant updates on the spread of novel coronavirus, there are between one and four cases in both regions.

This latest update comes as Hunter New England Health confirms a total number of 124 at the time of writing, with five of those patients being cared for in hospitals and two of those in intensive care units.

Daily wellness checks continue to be undertaken with all other confirmed cases in the district.

HNEH are contacting close contacts of the new cases, who are being asked to self isolate for 14 days from their last contact with the person who tested positive.

Like the confirmed cases, they will also be monitored daily and in the case they develop symptoms, they will also be tested for the virus.

NSW Health's Public Health Physician Doctor David Durrheim gave a breakdown of the latest statistics regarding COVID-19 in the region and said it is starting to hit the regional areas as well.

"COVID-19 is close to all of us," he said.

"Now is the time for all of us to do everything we can to slow down this virus. The people that are cases that are in home isolation who have got COVID-19 are doing the right thing by keeping themselves isolated."

People are strongly encouraged to self-isolate whenever possible to avoid an outbreak in the region.

Self-hygiene is also strongly advised, as residents are advised to wash their hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and avoid touching their face.
