PEPPERMINT Patty exploded from back in the field to run down favourite Tokelau and win Friday’s opening race on the eight-race Tamworth TAB program while stablemate, Subtle Winner, made it a perfect day for Scone trainer Brett Cavanough.

Peppermint Patty was having her third start and responded to Grant Buckley’s urgings perfectly to beat the Kris Lees-prepared Tokelau by a half-length.
Rod Northam’s The Debater was a short neck away third.
“Tubba (Tony) Williams sent him to us to win a maiden with her and then go to stud,” Cavanough said.
“They went hard up front and had her off the bit but she got the job done.”
It was a good effort by the daughter of Denman and one Cavanough feels will precede a similar effort from Another Sin in Saturday’s Highway Handicap at Rosehill Gardens.
Cavanough has high hopes for the unraced three-year-old gelding son of Duporth, who is coming off a barrier trial win at Scone.
“He’s a nice horse,” he said.
“They’ve backed him from $14 into $4.60”
Cavanough is yet to win a Highway Handicap.
“Run something like six seconds,” he said, while also advising a service fee to Duporth has been donated to the Darren Jones Family Appeal night at Tamworth Jockey Club on Thursday, August 24.
Duporth stands at $7700 at Kooringal Stud, Wagga Wagga.
It is one of many donations for a big night being run in aid of the family of Jones, who was killed in a tragic race fall at Warialda back in April.
Sky’s Greg Radley is the emcee on the night with Hugh Bowman and Malcolm Johnston the guest speakers.
An auction is part of the proceedings, as well as the Hunter and North West Racing Association premiership presentations.
Tickets for the night are $50 and available from the TJC (6765 9387).
Subtle Winner then made it a running double for the Cavanough stable when the seven-year-old daughter of Casino Prince won the Tamworth City Toyota Maiden Handicap (1400m).
She was having her ninth race start and broke through in determined fashion, securing a length and three-quarter win from Whiskey Apple with Schmizo another length away third.
“You are earning your money today,” Cavanough told Buckley as he dismounted from Subtle Miss after he had set the mare alight from the 700m in similar fashion to Peppermint Patty.
“You probably won’t see either of those again though, they’re probably off to the breeding barn.”
Cavanough said Buckley had found the best of the going on the upgraded track.
“Probably five and six deep,” he said.
