FALERINA, the half-sister to Silent Witness and a $320,000 yearling buy at the Gold Coast last year, broke through at her second start to win the Great Northern Super Crisp Lager Maiden (1000m) at the Muswellbrook Race Club on Thursday.

And, the victory left trainer Brett Cavanough a relieved man.
“That’s the maiden out of the way from a breeding perspective so now we can sit down and plan where we go with her,” the Scone mentor said.
“That will be decided after a discussion with the boys at Yarraman Park (her owners).
“I thought she would win here at her first start, but she did a lot wrong.
“She got cover today but she still wanted to look around in the straight.
“She is a lovely filly, that’s what breeding can do.”
The win gave Aaron Bullock the second leg of a double following his win on Falerina in the previous race.
He settled Falerina ($1.40 fav) in third place early behind Slimline, went to the lead half way down the straight and went on to beat the $71 chance Dreamy Dragon by one and a-quarter-lengths.
