Scone FilmFest is an annual short film festival that brings a little bit of Sydney’s Tropfest or Flickerfest to the Upper Hunter.
It’s unique to the area, providing award-winning, world-class Australian films, some of which have screened around the world, to Scone.
Now in its 10th year, the festival only showcases Australian short films.
“There is something for everyone, with a range of offerings from comedy, music video, animation to drama that will appeal to many age groups,” Scone Films’ Catherine Boulton said.
“Experience a film-lover’s delight, with the movies including Boori Pryor, John Wood, Dan Wyllie and Liv Hewson.
“Our inaugural festival was in 2009 and was highly-successful.
“Guests included the acclaimed producer John Winter, who is best known for producing feature films Rabbit-Proof Fence, Doing Time for Patsy Cline and Paperback Hero, and actor Roy Billing, known for Underbelly, The Dish and Jack Irish.”
After leaving the inaugural Scone FilmFest, actor Billing said: “The Scone audience seemed to really connect with all the films.
“No-one wanted to miss anything.
“It was a good night all-round.
“My wife and I certainly enjoyed the hospitality and the opportunity to meet everyone.”
He has since returned for the festival a number of times.
“Our 2010 festival saw the screening of Oscar-nominated short film Miracle Fish,” Ms Boulton said.
“Its main actor attended as well as its producer, Drew Bailey, who has worked on numerous short and feature films.
“Drew has since returned to the festival, too, to represent another of his movies.
“As always, we like to have some film guests at the festival to represent their films.
“Filmgoers can chat to producers, directors and cast about the making of the movies.
“Budding film-makers and actors will be able to pick up some tips, too, as the guests are always very generous with their time and advice.
“It’s also a really social evening with drinks and supper before the films and coffee and slices after.
“The Saturday evening, September 22, is always very popular, so be sure to purchase tickets early.
“Because of this, we hold a casual encore screening on Sunday morning, September 23, as well.”
