And, while a person has been placed under arrest, charges are yet to be laid.
A 20-year-old man reported to the Muswellbrook Police Station at approximately 6.30am on Tuesday – and is now assisting police in their inquiries.
It is believed the deceased man was attacked and suffered multiple traumatic injuries at a property in Parker Street, although Acting Superintendent Joanne Schultz said the exact nature of his death was yet to be determined.
She revealed a weapon is suspected to be involved, however no details have come to light regarding what it may have been.
The relationship between the men also remains a mystery, short of the acknowledgement they knew each other before the incident.
Acting Superintendent Shultz said she did not believe either the 41 or 20-year-old were previously known to police.
No official timeline of the event has been established at this stage, although Hunter Valley detectives have taken charge of the investigation.
